A Milanese Stage Since 1872
The Teatro Dal Verme opened on 14 September 1872 with Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots, designed by Giuseppe Pestagalli on commission from Count Francesco Dal Verme. It immediately became one of Milan's most important stages: it hosted the world premiere of Ruggero Leoncavallo's Pagliacci in 1892 and welcomed leading composers of the late nineteenth century.
Severely damaged in the 1943 wartime bombings of Milan, the theatre was rebuilt between 1991 and 2001 as a modern 1,420-seat concert hall. Today it is the home of the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali and one of the city's most active venues for chamber music, recitals, film-with-live-orchestra nights and the MITO SettembreMusica festival.
